The varnish is starting to go
The varnish is starting to go
Hi all,
Howdy! We have a nice wooden bench on our rooftop and the varnish is starting to go. Have used Sikkens for ages in the US, but can’t find it here. Anyone got any suggestions on a good local product for wood finishes for outdoor and exposed to direct sunlight wood furniture?
Thanks!

You're on a rooftop in Ha Noi, izzit, posting to a Singapore expat board?

Could it be Singapore's ISPs are using server parks in HN? I'm seeing quite a few of these seemingly innocuous posts, ostensibly originating from HN, presumably posted not for assistance but rather for nefarious purposes. Thing is, it doesn't appear to make a lot of sense, given some of the topics.
Am I missing something, SE?

VPN and proxies are very common nowadays, some browsers even bundled with built-in VPN.
I wouldn't be too concerned about the IP locations.

Re: The varnish is starting to go
It is often possible to tell if the IP address in question is a proxy. This one isn't, and most Vietnam IP's that post here are not.
Proxies and VPN are not that common, in fact, for the posters on this board, it doesn't amount to 1 in 25, and for sure, having a VPN server in Romania or Vietnam is not a way to get yourself through firewalls. Why? Because tons of IP's from eastern Europe, Vietnam, and India are on blacklists. Are you willing to trust a proxy or VPN server in Vietnam? Or Romania? Or India?
And finally, if this is a legitimate poster, he/she would respond about his/her location. It has happened occasionally before. But this poster is silent.
You want to know what will happen in a typical situation where the post is left alone? One of two things:
a) First, some "buddy" in Vietnam will post as another "American" who just happens to have the product, with a SEO link of course.
b) Or, this post will sit here, aging from one month to maybe three or four. Then the OP will be back and will change the original post to completely Vietnamese or English text, with SEO links.
If you want to bet this post is a VPN/proxy generated IP by a Singapore resident, I'd be happy to take the other side of that bet.

Re: The varnish is starting to go
Sounds realistic, SE. SEO peeps go to pretty extreme lengths and they're bloody resourceful.
That being said, I'll take you up on that bet. OP's post looks legit to me. A Snickers bar says he/she is going to get back to clarify, i.e. that he/she is on the level.
Of course, his/her control panel contents will be able to give you some clues, so likely you know more than me. But I haven't had a Snickers in a while.

Hey Max, I reckon you might as well go to the Value Store on the 4th floor of NEX and buy yourself a 5 pack of Snickers bars for $2.95. You'll probably get one sooner that way.
I just finished one about an hour ago!

Way ahead of you, SE
Meanwhile, let's see how OP rolls.

Another tell-tale sign is the date of account creation and the date/time of first post (3 minutes) and the last post. Same (3 minutes).
