Guys, I will be working in SG very soon. I am still waiting for my EP. The HR screwed up EP application for the first time. And he is re-applying for me now... Should I look for the room now ? I have tried to look for room, but , it was taken up very quickly... Shouid I place deposit first to avoid the room being occupied by the others ?

You should make sure you get your EP before committing any money towards housing. Otherwise, if you don't get your EP, you will lose your money and the landlord might ask for more.

You need to sign a TA(Tenancy Agreement) unless it is an Equitable lease(oral agreement) which I do not advise as you will not have any legal rights.
Common market practises for deposit is 1 month for 1-year rental and 2 months for a 2-year rental.
