Going in/out of aircon & not getting sick

Post by kingy75 » Wed, 24 Jul 2019 11:11 pm

Hi,

I've recently moved to Singapore for work and want to ask about how people deal with the humidity, going in/out of aircon all the time and not getting sick.

What temperature do you keep the aircon at in your apartment?

Do you leave it on all the time? Even overnight?

I'm struggling between feeling too hot & sweaty outdoors and feeling too cold indoors and I'm now starting to get a sore throat from too much aircon.

Sleeping is problematic, I find it hard to find an ideal temperature in my room and not wake up sweating in the middle of the night if I turn the aircon off before going to bed.

Any advice is appreciated.

Many thanks :)

Try to set your aircon to maybe 25 degree or invest in a fan if you do not wish to have the aircon turned on the entire night.

If your office's aircon is too cold, wear something thicker when indoors so that the difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures do not affect your body too much.

The locals here are used to it.

I only use the a/c when sleeping. It is set to 24C.
Most of the time, we use fans around the house.

I don't have aircon in my house at all. Been here 36 years. Never get sick.

Temperature fluctuations, standing in cold air or a drafty room, going out with your hair wet. None of these is going to give you a cold or a sore throat. You can run around in your y-fronts/knickers, with your hair dripping wet, in Alaska on a winter's day; you'll still need a bug, i.e. virus, in the mix to get you sick.

That said, if your aircon filter's are in need of a service, then the spores, dust particles, what-have-you, that get blown around the room may make you feel a bit sketchy, dodgy throat included.

modern,lightweight construction to blame:
thin walls
plastic
aluminium
glass
plasterboard panels
low ceiling heights

Btw : I detest air con
