additional employment request

Post by little chicken » Sun, 14 Jul 2019 10:28 am

Hello
I am seeking some help for an appeal regarding an additional employment request which has been denied. I have an EP from a company which allows EP holders to apply for additional work outside working hours. The consulting company I want to work for to complement my work has made the request through i-submit, request which has been denied.
I would like some help to secure the authorization to work in addition to my current role. Many thanks for your answer and help.

Under EP rules, you cannot work for more than one employer. End of story.

Hello - thanks for your answer. What you write is true for Spass and workpass but not for EP, it depends on your employer. MOM has a form which is called "additional employment request" for EP holders. For instance certain universities allow their EP holder to work outside their working hours for another employer. I am looking for someone who knows the process.

You're going to have to provide a link to that "additional employment request" form. I don't think it exists. The one and only exception to EP rules that I am aware of is allowing an EP to become an outside director for another company.

So, until you can provide me a link to this form and process, I will state again that you were not approved because MoM does not allow EP's to work for more than one employer.

Actually, SE, I know in the past, the special request for university employees used to exist. I don't, however, know if it is still available today. Maybe the OP can post a link to said request.

It may well be that it's a closed door arrangement between the MOM and the National Universities here. Similar to the ability for Malaysian degree holders being able to obtain EP with starting salaries of $2400~2600/mo starting salaries (Not S pass), even though the stated minimum salary for a bottom tier EP is $3,300/mo. Good luck in finding that on the MOM site (it's not there, nor is it publicized). I also know that for fact as 6 months before I retired this past March I hired two Entomologists fresh Grads from Universiti Sains Malaysia on EP's with $2,600 starting salaries.

A thorough search of our archives could also turn up some info on it as I vaguely remember something of that sort cropping up a number of years ago.

It might well be a closed agreement then. With this in mind, what information is most likely to convince the MOM to grant me a right they have granted to others? The issue being, the rules are not clear.... Thanks!

I had a pretty long search but couldn't find what I was specifically looking for in our archives, but I do remember a similar incident from several years ago. You have the form, if, as with most government forms and specifically MOM forms, they ask for what they want. They don't need any additional information and if they do, they will definitely get back to you to request specifics. So, get your potential employer and existing employer to fill out the necessary on the form and submit. Like I said, MOM does do some stuff that is impossible to find on the website and often the front line clerks and phone drones don't even know about. I do remember the earlier case but the details I cannot recall nor how long ago. Good Luck.

Oh, and for the next person who is in a similar situation, please let us know how it goes. This is primarily how we get our info. . Thanks.

I have already submitted the form and the request was denied by the MOM. My initial request to this group was to get some recommendation for the appeal. What makes successful appeal in employment cases? Shall I provide a letter from the 2 organisations? a motivation letter?

Thanks for your perspective on this!

I'm not sure that your appeal would even be entertained, considering it's not something published on their website for common consumption. Most appeals are only successful if there was some relevant information directly pertaining to the application that was inadvertently left off the initial application.
