Room Tenancy Rental agreement - IRAS estamping late submission

Post by DavidLee89 » Thu, 11 Jul 2019 11:08 pm

Hi.

My British Girlfriend just found out that her room rental tenancy agreement needs an IRAS estamp?

She moved from UK to Singapore in January this year. Signed the rental agreement for the room to stay in a friend's home. Well, six months later and its now July… And

She just found out that she also has to "estamp" the document with IRAS? And if she doesn't do it in 30 days she gets fined, and because its more than 30 days and over three months she can get even a $5000 fine for tax evasion? WTF?

She doesn't know what to do because if she gets the document estamp now she will cop a huge fine from the Singapore govt which she can't afford.

SHe's a bit worried now and wondering whether she'll just head back home once her contract ends in two months time.

Anyone else did a late submission and didn't get fined?

Normally the property agent should have done this.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!
