I have 3 month notice period
Which I managed to discuss and bring it down to 1.5 months.
Any way my employer go back on his word and refuse to release me after 1.5 months?

Re: 3 month notice period
No, as long as it's in writing. If not in writing, you have a 3 month notice period. Trust a local employer as much as you would trust one of your own countrymen. Without it in writing you have nothing.

Approval on mail would be sufficient?

As long as you can print it out with complete headers (which show date and timestamp) you should be good. Obviously you should continue to save it as a soft copy as well (in two different locations).
