Looking for testers for a divorce support site

Post by voltra » Sun, 16 Jun 2019 6:31 am

Hi all!

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I think should be the most appropriate of all.

I'm starting a support site for individuals facing marriage issues and divorcees and I'm looking for some testers to test out the platform first.

The reason why I'm starting this is because having walked the path myself, I find there are very limited places where I can seek help and crowd source advice on situations regarding difficult situations like handling relationships, between ex-spouse, children, ex in-laws etc.

Issues like custody, alimony, ancillary matters etc are often also matters that people need advice with.

The reason I'm posting here is because I see threads of marriage issues and divorce every other day. But I think many will agree with me, this is not the best place to seek relationship advice  This is a general expat forum afterall.

If you are a person who is either
- experiencing rocky marriage
- contemplating divorce
- already divorced
- facing issues pre or post divorce, legally or with relationships
- seeking advice for anything related to a separation or divorce
- wants to help others who are facing these issues

AND willing to help out, please PM me. In the process of testing, you may find the advice you need from this community too.

I'm real, not trolling, and not a divorce lawyer looking for business O:)
Don't flame me, and please be gentle with replies.

Thank you!

Hmmm. Interesting but probably doomed to fail.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

I, and a handful of others, way back when, formed a divorced fathers support group in Texas, called "Texas Fathers for Equal Rights, Wives and Grandparents Coalition". Although we wrote legislation and lobbied for it with the Texas legislature, eventually seeing a joint custody bill passed, we found most of our time devoted to three areas.
  1. Divorced fathers who think they are getting screwed. They find that the divorce laws and practice favor the women. They don't realize that getting divorced (with children) is not really ending a relationship with your spouse, just changing the nature of that relationship.

Far too many fathers wanted an escape hatch. Just as there were Moms who wanted to screw the Dad, there were Dads who wanted to screw the Moms, figuratively, that is. So, the first thing you'll want is the "bitch board" where everyone can complain about how badly they are getting f*cked over. Your moderation activities will consist of commiserating with them, answering questions of law, pointing out where their thinking is wrong, and in general, trying to get these folks to understand that a divorce is contract law.
  2. Attorney referral is the next thing everybody wants. So, you'll want a two prong approach. The first is simple. You have an attorney evaluation forum. You must moderate this carefully, for there will be many "my attorney f*cked me" posts. This may or may not be the case, for sometimes the attorney is worthless, in which case you'll want to rewrite the approach so that the original poster can't be sued for liable, and sometimes the attorney does a good job but can't beat the law and the circumstances.

The second part of your attorney referral section is the questionnaire you put together and send to all the divorce attorneys. You create a series of questions, ask them to each attorney, then make the answers available. Services, costs, positions on various issues are all questions you can ask. You should consider making the answers available on a paid basis, as people have no idea as to whether an attorney is worth a shit or not.
  3. The third area you'll want to put together on your board is a case history board. This will a listing of concluded divorce cases that are unusual or highlight particular rulings, for example, how someone got f*cked, or how someone managed to win a difficult case.
  4. Finally, as I mentioned, we wrote and lobbied for legislation. You might want a forum allowing people to discuss what they'd like to see in the divorce law.

Why so? I'm interested to know why such an early condemning of the idea before it even kicks off?

Nice! Thanks for sharing. A case history board sounds like an awesome idea.

Can i have the url of your forums for reference? Also mind sharing more on how you grew your community. That's the challenge I'm facing right now.

Try searching for forums to support and rehabilitate people who are in a difficult life situation, there you will help!
I try to do that too. Any such forums you know of?

Actually I realised that divorcees are all over the place seeking help. Which is why I started this to consolidate them all

I have not been associated with TFER for a very long time. In any event, we started it long before there was any such thing as an internet forum.

If you're in Singapore, you'll want to put advertising up and around the Family Justice Courts on Havelock. You should make a point of introducing yourself to as many court personnel as possible. They are well familiar with all the crap and would probably welcome any opportunity to recommend resources for those undergoing divorces.

Find out which MP's are on the family law committees in parliament. Contact them. They know divorce is a pain in the ass, and like court staff, will welcome any legitimate resource that that can help ease the way.
