Update - my EP renewal was approved, but no news from the police/AGC.

Anybody know how long AGC takes to reply to reps?

Why not ask your solicitor? They will have far more experience in this than us. I do know of a friend though who has had his Maserati impounded for almost a year already as part of an investigation.
Also as you didn't have a conviction (yet) I can see why your EP was approved but that doesn't mean it cannot be revoked if you are ultimately convicted in court. Keep worrying.

Have asked my solicitor, he is not sure if the timeframe. Originally said 4-8weeks, but has been over that time already. Just looking for others with similar experiences with dealing with AGC during this worrying time.

Anybody have experience of the time taken to hear back from attorney general chambers after submitting reps?

If the AGC has not responded within a short time frame as you say I would also be concerned.

I'd disagree with that for criminal cases... for traffic offenses yes.

The problem here however is that the arresting officer is not the investigating officer so there is an extra step and layer in the process which really isn't necessary. Most jurisdictions would have the arresting officer work directly with the prosecutor (i.e. AGC here).

what was the crime you commieted if you dont mind me asking?

Im asking because (I have another thread on here about when I got arrested)... I got arrested last year and it took a LONG time first for the case to go from the IO, to the AGC and then for the AGC to court... the whole thing went on over a year then i pleaded guilty and got sent to Jail for one month. My offence was simply cursing at a police officer and accidentally spitting at him when he arrested me for cursing.

Thanks for sharing. So looks like 14 months from offence to trial? Did you please guilty only at trial? If so, I wonder if my case might be different because I’ve already told them the truth what happened and been 100% transparent. In fact 3 months ago the IO told me he was already submitting his recommendation to the AGC. This is also my first offence ever and I have not been arrested or charged thus far.

hi, the only reason it took around 14 months for me was because I kept asking for more time from the court, to try to get as much evidence as possible to show that my 'crime' was not intentional. I went the route of trying to get medical documents saying I black out easily because Alcohol effects me more than other people, but really the judge did not buy any of that and the only way they would have looked at my full medical report was if i went on actual trial.

Instead of going on Trial, i pleaded guilty instead of claiming trial because I was told my my lawyer that I'd 'only' serve a max of 8 weeks in Jail, and going on trial would cost more time and money and I was already tired of being stuck in Singapore for 14 months and not being with my family. So i decided to take the plundge and just go into Jail to get it over with.

From what you say about the IO submitting his recommendation to the AGC it sounds positive in the sense that the IO is in your favour.

All i know is that they sometimes like to put cases with expats / foreigners, on the back end of the pile and you just have to wait it out. I felt it was sort of a punishment in itself that they want you to suffer by just waiting.

I am not sure what your offence is, but if you could tell me by PM, i may have more of an answer for you based on my experience and what I know of the singapore Law system.

How can a delayed payment to a financial institution be a criminal offence? What section are they charging you under? It sounds more of a civil matter to me.

Just heard back that the police want to charge me next week and then want me in court the following morning. I need a Singaporean bailor too.

Can anyone please recommend:
1) a good criminal lawyer;
2) usual course of proceedings here. Will I be given a sentence at court straight away? Or is there a trial period? I’ve already admitted to everything and so have nothing more to defend, apart from any sentence.

Just for a delayed payment it is really hard to imagine any criminal charges indeed. But it would be a different story if:
- this is a fraud (e.g.: taking money with no intention to pay them back).
- falsification of the documents (forgery) - if based on such documents you got the money
or both.

In such cases paying back will help but may not stop the charges.
