Drivers license conversion for LTVP

Post by CanaDude » Tue, 28 May 2019 12:13 pm

Are there any restrictions with a LTVP holder converting their foreign license to a Singapore drivers license?

I ask because (like many similar process here) the traffic police office list off every type of eligible pass (EP, DP etc) except LTVP.

In my experience (eg. Bank account eligibility) this shouldnt be an issue and maybe just a grey area. But wanted to check if anyone has encountered challenges.

Thanks!

No an LTVP holder cannot hold a Singapore drivers licence. An LTVP holder should use their own licence which would be valid for 12 months.

Thanks for the feedback.

What are the options for a LTVP holder after 12 months? Will they be explicitly denied if they try to apply for foreign license conversion?

My partner (LTVP holder) just wrote the BTT test in preparation for us both planning to convert. I’m wondering why they would allow a LTVP holder to write the BTT if they’re prohibited from having a Singapore drivers license.

I'm not seeing the issue with LTVP. Looks like they are treated the same as DP and EP.

An LTVP holder is treated the same as any other long term resident, need to convert to an Sg licence after 12 months to keep driving.

https://www.police.gov.sg/resources/tra ... -a-licence

Quote from the link above

II. Dependent’s Pass (DP), Employment Pass (EP), Long Term Visit Pass (LTVP), Student Pass (STP)

In the event the foreign visitor obtains a Pass that allows him/her to stay or work in Singapore on a more permanent basis – such as the DP, EP, LTVP, and STP – he/she may drive in Singapore using his/her valid foreign driving license for a period of not more than 12 months from the date of his/her last entry into Singapore prior to the date of issuance of his/her Pass. At the end of this 12-month period, he/she will need to hold a Singapore driving licence in order to continue driving in Singapore.

Edit: Snap :D

Ok it's changed at some point then as I had experience to the opposite. Interestingly I know FDWs who have managed to get a SDL and that is also supposedly impossible.
