R&D tax rebate for a startup

Post by cattleherder » Mon, 20 May 2019 11:46 am

Sooo, after the first year in operation, my Singaporean company filed its first tax assessment last year. We had some profit, and because new companies under a threshold of S$1 million in revenue are entitled to no tax, all is good.

We're a tech startup though, and apparently, there are also tax rebates up to 150%. When I lived in Australia and ran a tech company there, we were getting these even when no tax was paid, same rate.

How does it work in Singapore? Will these rebates work with S$0 tax?

It's not a rebate, it's a deduction firstly and secondly I don't think it can be carried forward so it has zero nett effect for you. It may be useful once you start paying tax (or become liable for tax).
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!
