In April, my partner found a phone left behind by someone. Immediately he chased after the man but he lost sight of him. He even returned to the same spot for quite a while to see if anyone was looking panic or anxious.
As it was late, he brought home the phone intending to return to npp soon. But he was busy and forgotten about it till 2 weeks later, the police came to the house to take the statement and retrieve the phone.
The phone was intact, unused at all. He didn't even sell the phone. The police said this was an offence of dishonesty. But the cctv did caught him running around so their main purpose was to tally the reports and retrieve the phone. One of the officers said this was a small matter.
It has been almost 3 weeks since his statement was taken. We called the officer who took his statement, the case has been transferred to the bedok division for investigation. We called the bedok division but they were unable to find the case number yet.
I am extremely worried as it was a genuine case of trying to search for the owner but subsequently forgotten about it. The phone was intact. What could happen next?
We are financially tight. I have email the pro bono enquiry but no reply till date. Can anyone please kindly advise me? Thank you.

I think you're going to be ok. Be honest and direct. These things do take a bit of time to unwind. It's very unfortunate that the phone was taken home but the police do need to show intent to steal I think (next time hand to the security or queries counter at the mall or train station).
While money is tight if charged you really do need legal representation, if you're not Singaporean you won't likely get pro bono assistance. Use the Law Society to find a barrister who will take payments over time.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or
http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Yeah, kind of tells me what kind of person is doing the posting or what kind of person the partner is normally like.

Our two friends are implying that while you may have the intention to sell the phone you didn't go ahead with it.

I'd chalk it up to an incomplete command of the English language.
