Are you guys male PR applicants who got their PR via Spouse sponsorship? May I ask if you are required to serve NS? Thank you

Depends on your age etc. if you’re above 32 you will be exempted but we still don’t have a yes and no answer. Call mindef. they won’t give you a definite answer but they will give you some hints.

If you read the forum, all males under family ties scheme are indeed liable for NS.

Though most of the time, they receive a letter of exemption from MINDEF. The age 32 thing is also a myth. I did read someone in their late 20s getting exemption too.

I was trying to be cheeky when I went to my PR interview. After they found out i was a part time Mandarin Drama actor, I volunteered to do NS. We had a good laugh over it considering I was one of the "exceptions to the generally accepted rule" with regard to the age where getting PR was highly unlikely. I was only 2 years away from Officer's retirement age in Singapore. But as I told them, I could still be a pretty decent flight instructor. We had a pretty good laugh over the whole interview, to be honest.
