Looking for PMLA/ LTVP Information

Post by mintias » Thu, 25 Apr 2019 9:08 pm

Hi there,

I'm not in a position where I/ my potential spouse has to apply for one right now but in the event our relationship develops towards that direction, I would like to have a better idea regarding what to expect.

I'm currently dating a guy from America (27y/o, no degree, currently employed) and I'm a student (F) graduating with an arts degree this year. Things have been going on well between us for almost 2 years but I'm worried about getting more emotionally invested in my relationship as I'm unsure of the chances of success for him to be able to live and work in Singapore.

If anyone has any experience in this area, I would appreciate it if you can share it with me, thank you!

You are in for a rough time, if you want to know the truth. Singapore, regardless of how much she has progressed over the years, is still, at the root of it, a patriarchal society. It is also a society that depends on immigration of highly qualified individuals. However, there is still the route of entry based on Family Ties for obtaining PR. That obviously will have to be on the cards if you were to marry him. But, to be honest, without more information as to his industry or level therein, he will find it almost impossible to gain employment here with the exception of possibly on a Letter of Consent IF you could manage to get him and LTVP+ after you are married. In order to accomplish that you will need to be able to show that you can support him, which at the moment appears to be impossible as you are still a student. The approximate tipping point on the scales is currently around 4~5K/month salary. Most entry positions today require a minimum of a diploma with experience for S passes and a Degree for the lowest level of EP. I'm not saying don't do it, but be advised that it's not going to be easy. (I've been there and done that 36 years ago but it was different back then). Good Luck.

@sundaymorningstaple 2 queries i have
- You mentioned LOC (Letter of Consent). There is another thing introduced PLOC (Pre Approved Letter of Consent). It is spousal centric. Basically under PLOC, the foreigner`s employer isnt liable of any levy or any of that drama. So, as per your experience do you think it would be of any ease in terms of employment if i move there on DP ?

- Also, i would like to ask. I am a 31 y.o male from Pakistan. 3 Diplomas (Australia). Bachelors Degree (Malaysia). Recently Working in Procurement MNC (Pakistan). However, my partner (to be) is a teacher with 2.3K salary ONLY. What do you reckon for PMLA?

Much appreciated if you response. Your experience is required please.

If her salary is only 2.3K/mo she might be hard-pressed to be able to convince ICA that she can support you. Currently it takes a salary in the neighborhood of 4.5K/mo to make ICA happy. However, before you pull the trigger, you might want to make sure you do the PMLA. Oh, another thing. Have you ever worked in Singapore before? Were you on a Work Permit? If so, you need to get permission from the MOM to marry a Singaporean, otherwise, there is no way you will get an LTVP/LTVP+.

@sundaymorningstaple Thanks dear sir for your kind attention. I have never been to Singapore. Yeah her salary part is worrying. Definitely going for PMLA cant imagine jeopardizing my job in my country by straight going for marriage and hear (SURPRISE motherf....) from ICA later lol.
