Online business on a s pass

Post by Cc123 » Fri, 12 Apr 2019 9:00 am

Hi

Recent arrival, would really appreciate some help :)

In the past I've ran an online Amazon business and want to scale up with dropshipping. None of the business or sales will take place in Singapore ..
1. Is this legal on my pass?
2. Where would I pay tax on it (Irish citizen non resident for tax)?

Very entrepreneurial, so would be great to know what I can do whilst I'm here. Would tefl online internationalky be ok/ stock trading/ setting up an Irish company to freelance overseas etc? Any advice , greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you!

Not legal. You can't work another job, even your own, on a work pass.

And if it were legal, and since you are a Singapore resident for tax purposes, you'd report all your earnings from your side jobs here. But, as you can't be working two jobs here, even your own, you'd be finding yourself in between a bit of a rock and a hard place.

Note that this all applies to EARNED income. If you also happen to be a real estate magnate, dragging down more investment income then the o̶r̶a̶n̶g̶e̶ ̶p̶e̶n̶d̶e̶j̶o̶, er, I mean the real estate magnate Donald Trump, then that doesn't count. Singapore doesn't care about your overseas investment activities under the assumption that they are taxed elsewhere.

Thank you so much for your responses :)

I don't understand the policy logic on why one can't freelance overseas with non singaporeans. Is this actually detected/ enforced...what would be the worst case scenario?

One final question. I have a website/ blog, it's more of a hobby but does generate a small income from ads and affiliate links. Will I have to delete/ not maintain and develop it?

Thank you!

Also we'll be in SG for less than 1 complete Ireland tax year - so as I understand, I will still be an Irish resident for tax purposes. If that makes a difference ?

If you are in Singapore for 183 days you are a tax resident here as well.
