Tax relief for parents

Post by zervino » Sat, 02 Mar 2019 3:41 pm

Hi,

I am a foreigner who has been working in Singapore since 2017 on local contract.

In 2018 we had a baby (born in Singapore with foreign passport). What kind of tax relief can I get?
I see I can get the Qualifying Child Relief (QCR) with $4000.

What about the Parenthood Tax Rebate (PTR)? It is a lot more money, but I'm not sure if as a foreigner I qualify.

Thank you!

Yes you qualify based on the fact that it is listed on the page for foreigners on the IRAS site. There is nothing saying you cannot, therefore enjoy.

You can enjoy PTR only if your child is a Singaporean.

Agreed bcheng. I had grief on this because my wife and I are not SC and we have TWO SC children... IRAS had issues believing us and needed birth cert etc... apparently there is a DNA mutation among Singaporeans that causes them to follow all rules blindly so they wanted to test for that one but I refused/S.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!
