Register birth certificate for child

Post by misosoup » Sat, 19 Jan 2019 10:56 am

I'm holding a LTVP and recently got divorced with a Singaporean man. However, later I found that I got pregnant and I would like to give birth to my child in Singapore, and for the child to register her birth certificate here, with a Singapore citizenship. Will the laws here recognise her citizenship? Tks.

How can you proof that the child’s father is a Singaporean ?

I was pregnant when we were still married.

In law, I believe you will need his signature on the birth certificate attesting that he is the father? If you are divorced, we cannot say as we don't know the grounds for divorce or even if he's the father as you didn't give us any data to process.

We divorced because we had a lot of disagreements over many things. But he's the father and he'll also put his signature on the birth cert. What I'm really asking is, will the hospital even allow it?

If the father signs the birth cert and is Singaporean the child will be Singaporean regardless of marital status.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.

Thanks PNGMK for the reply. If this is true regardless of marital status then it'll be great news. But I would like to check, wouldn't the hospital require any proof? Or the father just needs to sign and that'll be that? I'm just afraid that my child will not be given a birth cert and she will be 'nationless'.

Oh, by the way, my concern stems from hospital's website which wrote that parents' marriage cert needs to be shown when registering for the birth cert, so if divorced then how? Even if her father is willing to sign on the birth cert will she be given citizenship?

You can show the marriage cert. Just don't show the divorce cert. Or better yet ask an actual lawyer.
