Occupying an HDB during minimum occupancy period

Post by bradybjr » Tue, 08 Jan 2019 5:02 am

Hello all,

I am relocating to work in Singapore on an EP. My girlfriend is Singaporean and her family has a spare HDB that hasn't yet met the minimum occupancy period (MOP). However they are allowing me to stay there free of charge.

I'm not quite sure if I would be able to register this as my primary address to the MoM for Employment Pass issuance. I was looking into the HDB policies and it mentions that occupants can only be direct family members of the owner (sibling, spouse, in-laws, etc.)

Do I have any options? I can search for other places if needed but I also would like to take advantage of this opportunity if possible.

Thanks and cheers!

how big is the hdb unit? I believe the hdb owner is allowed to rent out a room if the hdb is a certain size and configuration, regardless of MOP status and subject to maximum number of occupants.

The unit is 2bdrm, not sure it is exempt from MOP. What makes it especially confusing is that I would just be living there, just as an occupant, not as a tenant.

It should not be an issue. Basically is like letting a friend a place to stay. No rental out of goodwill

I suppose my primary concern is this page from the HDB site:

https://www.hdb.gov.sg/cs/infoweb/resid ... de=preview

"Proposed occupiers must be your immediate family members. They can be your:
Spouse, Children or adopted children
Parents or parents-in-law
Siblings"

Actually they should be the one who should worry.

It is a 2 rm hdb. Still within 5 yrs MOP.

During ur stay , it will not count as MOP. The 5 yrs MOP will extend according how long you stay there.
