Would You Ship A Laptop To Uganda?

Post by Strong Eagle » Thu, 03 Jan 2019 4:05 am

Curious as to your thoughts. An acquaintance of mine thinks he wants to send a laptop to his friend there because they are so expensive in Uganda.

I suggested that it will never get to its destination because of customs and corruption. I know that when we needed to get computer parts to Nairobi, we didn't even try shipping... we put a guy on a plane with a carry on bag full of parts.

So... if the guy sent a laptop from the US via UPS or Fedex, you think it would make it? What if he used a sea freight company or the post office?

Is a diplomatic pouch an option? (Does he have that sort of stroke)?
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.

You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA

There’s no way it would make it. If it wasn’t already severely damaged due to rough handling while being shipped in the mail, the customs officers are sure to take it. If I’m not wrong there must be some sort of policy or regulation against shipping electronics with batteries. It’s the same reason they don’t let you take batteries like a portable charger on a flight; devices are prone to exploding which can be a huge hazard.
