Rejected the transfer of REP?

Post by Lim Yuan Hai » Mon, 31 Dec 2018 11:57 am

Hi,

Good morning.

My transfer of REP online is strangely rejected by the ICA.

I am in oversea. I have transfer my REP on line then it is pending and received email from the ICA to update my oversea address with them so that they can process my transfer. I have done it and they informed me that they have successfully update my oversea address in their system. Next day when I logged in to MyICA, I found out it is being rejected.

Can anyone who has knowledge or experience about it advise?

Thank you and happy new year.

Sure. You have probably been out of the country too long and are trying to renew your REP without a valid reason for being overseas. So they are figuring you are no longer interested in being a PR.

@ sundaymorningstaple,

My case is not renewal of REP, it is just transfer of REP due to new passport.

Something is wrong. If i am not wrong, transfer of REP from one passport to another is instant.

Where are you from and how long are you away from SG?

Are you transferring your REP from/to a passport of the same or difference nationality? Example: I previously transferred REP from expiring US passport to new US passport. This would be different than me transferring my REP from my US passport to my UK passport.

I am away from SG about 2 years and 9 months.
I am transferring my REP to a passport of the same nationality.

My REP will be expired about 3 weeks when I transfer my REP. I think it might be a reason for this transfer of REP's rejection. However, it doesn't make sense.

Any comment or advise?

No advice. You're no longer a PR of Singapore.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

@ PNGMK, My current REP is still valid, hence, I am still a SPR.
My Spore base company has assigned me oversea to work and my CPF is contributed.

I am renewing my REP. How long will it take to renew REP online when one is in oversea?

Wait, your REP is going to be expired in 3 weeks? If so, try and renew it now. If that's also rejected, you know what that means...

My REP is successfully renewed for just one year that disappointed me.

Is there a way to get 5 years REP instead?

If you only got a 1 year renewal it means you were somehow a bad boy. You may have spent 2 years or more outside of the country (or not been back in the country for at least 2 years before renewal (this will get you a single year every time and that one year will, most of the time be for the express purpose of allowing you a year to get your Plan B in order and be ready to say goodbye Singers. Otherwise, you might get lucky and get a second one year REP to see how bad you want to stay here or if you were planning on pulling another slippery deal. Or you may have gotten into trouble here in Singapore and they figure that they don't really need any more trouble than necessary. Somewhere you have rubbed their fur the wrong way and now you have yourself in a fix. The fact that you are posting from Thailand leads me to believe you will not be getting another renewal.

Whatever you do, make sure you have a Plan B as you may well need it. Of course you can still go back to an EP or S pass but that is provided the employer is willing to go there again. The Normal REP is 5 years with one year usually being the death knell of your PR.

Stay and work in SG for the next 1 year, then they MAY consider renewing for a longer period

They give a 1 year REP for those PRs who are not resident in Singapore for a certain amount of time in the last 5 years. If you still are not resident in Singapore at the end of that year then it is probable that your REP renewal will be rejected .
