dual citizenship SG woman

Post by pandaow » Fri, 07 Dec 2018 5:50 am

Hi all, I know this has been discussed several times on the forum, but I'd like your advice on dual citizenship for a SG woman.

What are the risks besides those related to NS when a Singaporean decides to take another citizenship?
I don't want to renounce by SG citizenship in case I want to come back home in the future, but my best option, for now, is to get the citizenship in the country I've been leaving for the past 10 years. I understand men may be in trouble with NS, but what about women? What are the odds to get caught, and if caught, what are the risks?

Do you know where I could find legal advice on that? I've been looking for lawyers online but it's difficult when abroad. Thanks in advance for your response!

There is no risk of criminal charges from what I can tell. One poster here accidentally travelled back to Singapore on her US passport and has been told by ICA she needs to cancel her Singapore citizenship/passport within a certain timeframe. Provided you are careful and don't need your CPF you should be able to get away with it. The same goes for men actually once they have completed their NS duties.

You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Thanks for your quick reply! So provided that I don't travel to SG with my foreign passport, how can they find out? To get my other citizenship I need to ask all sorts of certificates to SG, I'm wondering if this is how they could tell. I'm also wondering whether the two countries communicate in that process.
Thanks again!

If found out, you can be stripped of your Singapore Citizenship by the MHA. As technology and passports start to contain more and more information, it will only be a matter of time that your parents place of birth and citizenship will be included on your passports as well. You can see where that will lead...

To sum it up you're now asking us how to advise you on how to defraud the Republic and her officers. No thanks. Good luck.
