Getting a S pass with a part-time study diploma

Post by gregoost » Thu, 22 Nov 2018 9:49 am

Hi,

I am from Sri Lanka and looking for career opportunities in Singapore.

I have a 1-year diploma in IT, but my study mode was part-time. I have 4 years of work experience as a software developer.

What would be my chances of getting a S pass?

Thanks a lot for your time.

Thank you for the reply. Yes I mean if I'm offered a job, would the government offer me an S pass? I'm concerned if my qualifications are enough because my diploma is 1 year part time.

I have known people without degrees who are able to secure an employment pass but this is not common. It is based on work experience in the field applied and whether the salary offered is commensurate with that experience.

Thanks. So this means it is not impossible. So I may try out my luck :)

Improbably, yes. Impossible, no. I'm one such who does not have a degree, but I have to admit, I got my EP way back in the last millenium.

The self assessment tool shows that I will get a S pass. Doesn't that mean I have enough qualifications?

The self assessment test only means that you meet the minimum requirements. It doesn't mean that you will get a pass. That is entirely up to the people at MoM, and they don't tell anyone exactly how they decide.

For example, the assessment tool may show that you earn enough money but MoM may decide that you don't earn enough money for the number of years of experience you have and the nature of the job.

The only way you will find out is to find an employer will to hire you, and have that employer apply for your pass. Then you will know for sure.
