Husband wants to move to Singapore with MIL

Post by duncoje » Fri, 16 Nov 2018 9:09 am

Hi,
We are a family of 3 (2 adults, 1x2yo) currently living in SE Asia. My husband has decided that instead of moving home (Australia) he wants to bring his mother to come and live with us.
There are no options to do this in the country we currently live in, as we are not PR and it would require her doing a visa run every 3 months (which they will not allow after the 3rd consecutive trip).
Note: I am currently not working as I am a stay at home parent, I would ideally like to continue this until toddler starts school but have a professional qualification if I do need to work.

My understanding is if he was earning over $12,000 a month and had a P1 visa then it could be possible in Singapore. It would be possible for her to apply for a LTV pass/dependent visa? Please let me know if I am incorrect.
If we decided to take this route I am also curious to know about health care. MIL has pre-existing medical conditions, would we be required to take out specialised insurance? Would she have any sort of local coverage? I just want to make sure that if we move forward with this and she gets sick and needs to be hospitalised that it's not going to cost $x000's a day out of pocket and she would be cared for.

I apologise if this is not very clear - happy to provide further information if necessary.

You can get a pass for the following family members:

Parents - only for those earning a fixed monthly salary of at least $12,000.

You can take hospitalization insurance in SG. But once she has pre-existing conditions, they will be excluded in most of the cases.
