Hi, I am currently studying overseas and I am considering enlisting early in NS at 16.5 instead of 18.
Has anyone enlisted early before? and what are the pros/cons of enlisting early? Also would I be able to return overseas and study 11th grade at 18 years old after completing my service?

Enlisting in NS Early
Re: Enlisting in NS Early
Pro get it done. Con being young and vulnerable. And yes you could go overseas to complete education afterwards. Apply for a 364 day exit permit. Good plan actually.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Refreshing change, normally it's delay or avoid.
Age definitely could be an issue, but if you're a mature 16.5 and physically able then you'd be fine.

It's an excellent idea for those who want to get NS out of the way before resuming their education, esp if they are fit and able.bgd wrote:Refreshing change, normally it's delay or avoid.

Re: Enlisting in NS Early
you won't be in the army (or whatever branch of service) at 16.5yo.nsquiries wrote:Hi, I am currently studying overseas and I am considering enlisting early in NS at 16.5 instead of 18.

after registration, there's stuff you have to go through before you finally get your enlistment papers. that'll take 8-10 months - if they decide to allow you to enlist before you turn 18.
by that time, you'll be closer to 18 than you are to 17.
pros? some vocations may be offlimits to you. you will most probably not go into (what they now call) "command schools" so you'll just be a regular enlisted soldier. you may be treated as the baby of your section/platoon/unit.
cons? see pros above.
