Rentals for 'large' families

Post by devangibhuta » Mon, 17 Sep 2018 3:07 pm

The lease of our current (2 bedroom) place expires this year and we are in the market for renting a bigger (3+ bedrooms) place.

Most agents ask the number of tenants (we are 6 of us - couple, child, in laws and helper). And I have noticed that they do not revert back.

Is it because of the number of people? My husband and I never faced this problem earlier

Or maybe because the LL doesn’t want your nationality (known issue).

I would think now it's the owners market so they get to choose the preferred profile and demographics. To the owners and agent, the lesser occupants the better.. possibly less wear and tear and less problems.

More than anything, I'm curious how you fit six people in two bedrooms. Must be a very tight squeeze.

Highly possible, racism in the property market is rampant, and any anti-discrimination policies are unenforceable.

Yeah, with rent prices soaring it is absolutely the LL's market. You make a good point about wear and tear, I believe in general LLs prefer fuss-free renters, so they likely prefer smaller groups with no pets/children.

Don't know much about censorship, haven't encountered any issues personally and I've been here for around 3 years. Not sure how many mods there are exactly, but SMS is pretty much the gatekeeper here. You can tell as their usernames are a different color and the word moderator is stated on the same line.
