None of the frames in Ikea will protect your photo's if you hang them on the wall, the moisture will eventually get to them from the concrete, without the proper backing materials. My posters are done with wood backing sealed with, I presume tin foil, no idea if its specially made for the job or not. But it does keep the moisture out.

For one-of-a-kind posters and this makes sense, but for digital pics it's easy enough to print a new identical copy -- so it does it really make sense to invest in professional framing?

This is quite true! It doesn't have to be professionally framed, my point is to do it correctly, even a cheap frame from Ikea, will do providing its done correctly, mind you there are those, that couldn't care, and those that do care to do it right first time, i guess it all depends on how quickly the photo absorbs moisture, and how often you wish to reprint the copy, its entirely your choice.
