Aiyoh, the suicides of Kate Spade and Bourdain have brought mental health issues into the forefront. Or is it just me? It kept appearing on my newsfeed :D. In this case, a war veteran with PTSD. Nothing good comes out of war. Ever ! Many of our war veterans are not getting the help they need and they make up a seizable portion of the homeless population.

One striking comment from this documentary (see below) came from Mrs. Rogers, the wifey. During childhood, both her and the husband were not allowed to express anger. I wonder why? Could it be that the witnessing of strong, negative emotions make us uncomfortable and it overwhelms us? Well, let me just say that as humans, we will experience anger, jealousy and resentment. The not-so-positive emotions are normal and part of the human condition.

Our emotions (both the positive and negative ones) are messages to ourselves. Please do not ignore them and sweep it under the carpet. Do not make your child feel bad about his / her negative emotions. Instead, try to help them find a positive way to manage their negative emotions. Treat everyone's feeling with respect. Do not minimize it. When we exercise and spread this culture of care, we would have done a great service not only to our children, but for families, societies and the world at large.

And my question is, what would you do if you were in the same flight with the woman in the video? Will you offer to help? Do you think you would be in a position to help calm her down? Or write her off as being another looney? Or do you see a troubled person who needs help and intervention?

# 1 happens to me quite a bit as onion is a common ingredient in my cooking

#3 can happen when I listen to music that deeply affects me or see homeless people on the street or learn about the plight of our veterans

He made quite a point here. If you are able to find it within your heart to excuse his vulgar language.

I was told of this Japanese parenting tip. Parent would offer the crying / traumatized child a lollipop (or any item that soothes the child) to calm him / her down. And only proceed to talk over the incident / trauma after the child has calmed down.

It's a process, teaching them to manage their difficult emotions and to nurture self-control. It is unrealistic for adults to expect a young child to be able to do that from the get-go.

Suicide is a selfish act. It's also an act where the person assumes they wholly own their body. They don't - so many people have contributed to them over their life. It's not their life to take.

I am fairly sure the folk don't commit suicide for fun.

The folks who "contributed" are probably the primary reason that they kill themselves.

Having known friends who have both killed themselves and been brought back from the edge , then its no simple thing.

You need to switch of your religious head and look at each death with a clear mind.
Life is short, paddle harder!!
