Street trees disappearing

Never mind the street trees, what happened to the cockroaches? There used to be cockroaches everywhere you look, with an occasional infestation every now and again. We used to spot a roach at home every so often, little ones, sometimes a big one, and I'd see them scurrying away outside pretty regularly. But now I can't even recall seeing a cockroach for months, maybe a year or so, apart from a dead one every now and again. Our bug spray has been sitting in the cupboard for a few years, totally unused.

I realize cockroaches are probably not as desirable as street trees. But it is a bit weird hardly ever seeing cockroaches in a city that practically sits on the equator.

Anyone else notice this?

Do you have a lot of Geckos? They wipe out roaches. I do agree though that our roach level is down compared to the previous years.

We do have a few resident geckos yes. And I'm pretty sure they take their fair share. But it doesn't really explain the way lower roach count when we're outside eh.

Any entomologists out there care to have a go?

The area is nice but there is like semi-permanent dengue cluster around Lakeside Dr. I am actually surprised not seeing any cases there right now.
