UK expat (non resident) cannot register with "gov.verify"

Post by martincymru » Mon, 11 Jun 2018 3:59 pm

here we go again..... another new system....another hassle for UK expats....

I need to view my driving licence and deal with many other government related matters but cannot register with "gov.verify" 'cos have less than 3 years' residence in UK.

Advice appreciated.

I didn't see anything that says 3 years, just a UK residence. Is it buried in the detail?

Dear bgd,

I completed the online app form with "SecureIdentity", one of the appointed agents.

At the end they asked for address, I put my brother's address - rejected. Then whole process again - rejected .."sorry cannot verify you...". Raised chat query .... SecureIdentity response "..need 3 years UK address...with SecureIdentity.... ".

+ it appears, in any case, you must have a UK address so I may presume they check with council tax etc. to verify.

If I am not mistaken a UK expat with no affirmed UK address cannot "GOV. verify".

//
Anyone else tried and failed or wish to advise me how to circumnavigate....?

You're not alone:
https://www.gov.uk/performance/govuk-verify

Only 44% who've attempted succeeded.

low success rate is disturbing..... rejection has serious implications, I opine.

I need to hire a car in the UK. I am unable to "View or share your driving licence information DVLA"; EUROPCAR insist upon.

Help!

Assuming you still have your licence can you not just provide a scanned copy?

Of course if it has expired then you are stuck. Used to be possible to do it from abroad, but no longer.

Then you need to use a foreign licence. My Sg licence is the only one I have now.

This is the relevant annoyance from HMG regarding driving licences and car hire:

Using a Singapore licence might be easier. The only problem I had getting mine was the length of time before I could get a slot for the theory test.
