"China has responded by trying to gently reframe the Belt and Road Initiative. In a recent speech, Xi described the projects not in economic terms but rather as a diplomatic tool that could unite much of the world.
China “should be considerate of image issues” around Belt and Road, said Yanmei Xie, an analyst in Beijing. "
I hope they understand that this is not merely about superficial image and face issue. If China wants to be accepted as a creditable and respectable member of the global community, then it needs to start acting like one. In behaviors and substance. Lip service can only take you this far. Nobody wants to see the emergence of another hegemony.
We need more leaders like Mahathir that will stand up to oppressors who offer promises of wealth and prosperity. How does Njib sleep at night, after selling out his own country and fellow countrymen.

Interesting article , seems like if true , gonna be a lot of kids similar to the vietnam experince during the war.Along the Thika Road, a major new Chinese-built superhighway linking Nairobi to the industrial town of Thika, rumours of so-called "Thika babies" abound.
According to the whispers, Chinese construction workers have fathered hundreds of babies with local women, before disappearing into the ether.

Strongmen cant last forever in Africa and when all said and done , someone will have to pay for the upkeep of the infrastructure.

Sri Lanka just ceded a port to China for non payment, essentially giving away sovereign rights. There will be much more of this to come.

That is what they have been touting and parading to the rest of the world. Soft power ala CCP style. And they go about it hawkishly. The very anithesis of soft power. The cluelessness
. And too ethnocentric to see beyond themselves and their culture. Just like the mainland Chinese, people from other countries also have aspirations of their own. Until they stop seeing it as a zero sum game of upmanship and start working towards win-win scenarios.
Chinese consulate offered a workshop in conjunction with the chamber of commerce on how to do business in China. Which I attended. That was the time of heightened tension with Taiwan. This nut job, the consulate himself, who was supposed to represent his country kept repeating "Taiwan is part of China" over and over again . Like a broken record, I kid you not
. And not much else to offer in terms of real trade leads or information. It takes an unsound mind to be chanting this miguided slogan to a foreign audience. Surreal. At one point, I started to question if that was a robot standing in front of us and was looking for a switch off button.
Perhaps that was their ploy. If we listen to it enough times we will eventually agree with the message. Mind control. What a waste of our time. It was just a ploy to gather an (American) audience to push their political agenda. An audience of business people who are uninterested in the politics of it all. Did I mention clueless? And the cheek !
. That is the thing with doing business in China. Weather you like it or not, you will inextricably get entangled with this CCP stuff.
"They basically have taken their domestic propaganda template and tried to go global with it."

The bad news coming out of Sri Lanka has put other countries on alert. That, plus Mahathir's warning about the emergence of a new form of economic colonialism has forced China to change its tune. China is now offering loans that are interest free. The push back from the global community is working
Re: Malaysia - corrupt scumbag Najib out and Mahathir (92 yo) is in!
Who wants an interest free loan if it means losing everything?

Exactly. Beware of strangers bearing gifts. There is a reason why these countries have difficulty getting loans elsewhere. China is their only option and she will capitalize on the opportunity to exploit.
My point being that China is learning very slowly that she can't get her way on the international arena. Cause Dorothy, this isn't Kansas anymore. She will need to grow up and learn her manners in order to function outside of her own country.

This reminds me of bookseller Gui Minhai, a Swedish national (originally from China) who was kidnapped right under the nose of two Swedish diplomats who were escorting him. Who shall be next
? And remember now, Gui is no longer a Chinese citizen but a Swedish one. China has effectively violated international law.

The plot thickens. What is next? A champagne-popping emoji after he emerges from re-education? Joke aside this is serious matter. He has resigned from the Interpol whilst in captivity. How is that even possible? And does China have any more credibility left?

Re: Malaysia - corrupt scumbag Najib out and Mahathir (92 yo) is in!
I'm actually surprised if china forced his resignation as it would be better to have a mole inside interpol. It's possible he resigned as one last honorable act so as to disallow china access to interpol after his re-education.earthfriendly wrote:The plot thickens. What is next? Do you think he has the ability to exercise free will under CCP's captivity? Wondering if he will appear on the radar later with a scripted apology
