Where to live?

Post by auddiejane » Fri, 25 Feb 2005 7:15 am

My husband and I are an American couple currently living in London and are looking for advice on where to live in Singapore as we plan to move in the near future.

We are a late 20's couple without children. We enjoy dining out, the arts (theatre, galleries, etc), nightlife, shopping, and experiencing local culture.

What areas are lively and ideal for young, professional couples?

We've been looking at district 9. Is this a good area? Any other recommendations?

Districts 9, 10 and 11 are pretty much in the heart of the city, and thats where you'll find most of the activity. It can make quite a a difference however living smack dab on Orchard Road...in the negative sense!

Try looking for apartments on Cairnhill Road, around or close to Holland Village or Great World City Mall. Most of these locations are a stones throw away from Orchard Road, but have quiet enough apartments and houses that you can retreat to when the city gets to you.

That said, Singapore is fairly small so nothing is more than a 25 minute drive!

There are some nice (but expensive) converted shophouses along Emerald Hill.....some are beautifully refurbished.

Its right off Orchard Road, and very close to some of the more popular drinking establishments, like No.5's.
