Eh? I thought most fuel was burnt on taxis and climb to cruising elevation? If you have half of that on a trip (one less landing and taxi) you use half the fuel...Strong Eagle wrote:What a huge waste of fuel to avoid a stop.
You have to have fuel to carry all that fuel... just like a rocket. For the really long haul flights, you give up a lot of seats in order to carry the extra weight of fuel.PNGMK wrote:Eh? So... this is being done because passengers want it.Flight distance
For long-haul flights, the airplane needs to carry additional fuel, leading to higher fuel consumption. Above a certain distance it becomes more fuel-efficient to make a halfway stop to refuel despite the energy losses in descent and climb. For example, a Boeing 777-300 reaches the tipping point at 3,000 nautical miles (5,600 km). It is more fuel-efficient to make a non-stop flight below this distance and to make a stop when covering a longer total distance.[5]
when United launched the nonstop from San Fran to Singapore I took it but... would never do that long a flight again. was a 17+ hours flight and i was so restless, I ran out of things to do.rajagainstthemachine wrote:I'd rather spend three to four hours in an airport stretching my legs and getting a coffee instead of this long ass madness..
If you could only light a joint on the way over, things would be so much more "groovy".jnageb18 wrote:when United launched the nonstop from San Fran to Singapore I took it but... would never do that long a flight again. was a 17+ hours flight and i was so restless, I ran out of things to do.rajagainstthemachine wrote:I'd rather spend three to four hours in an airport stretching my legs and getting a coffee instead of this long ass madness..
