Hi,

I just received letter from ICA, it stated that my citizenship application has not been successful.
I would like to ask what do I need to do to submit an appeal?
If I would like to meet a MP for recommendation letter, how do I do it?

I feel that the reason I got rejected is mostly because my IC is JB address, I travel in and out everyday to work , I do not stay in SG but I do have siblings who have obtained their citizenship and is living in SG. I am 30 yrs old, single, private degree holder and earning only 2.3k .

Seems rather obvious. If you want to be SC, you'll need a Singapore address. If you are living in JB, you would be tax resident in Malaysia. Another problem.

Actually I did include my sister's Singapore address in the application but I guess it's whats registered on my IC that counts.. I'll have it change to SG address coming week although it might not help much now..

Im calling ICA tomorrow morning to try book an appointment with one of the officer to try submit an appeal and an appeal letter explaining my situation. I'm actually staying on both sides, sometimes in SG sometimes in JB.. I have no liability in Malaysia (credit card, car or house) but I do have a phone line signed under my name in JB... maybe I'll have that cancelled?

What other documents should I prepare for an appeal at ICA?

Since, you are not permanently staying in SG, chances to get SC now is going to be very less. You need to stay a certain number of years in SG to be considered positive for SC. If you see the application form, there is a section to declare, if you were out of SG in the last 5-6 years and the reason why you were outside SG. This means there is a residential requirement.

I did understand that one of the requirements is to have to stay in SG for at least 2 years, but for my case it's a little complicated as I did stay in SG but not everyday its occasionally only, I live on both sides, SG and JB. I was hoping there is a chance to explain this and I'm hoping to buy a house for myself in years to come. I have been a PR since I was born and I thought my chance is going to be pretty high , I guess this 'living in JB' thing has greatly affected my chances...

Unless you stay in SG permanently for 3-4 years, your chance will be very low to Nil

I guess I'll just try to give appeal a shot although I feel the outcome should be the same. :(
I've emailed ICA for an appointment to meet up with the officer.. is meeting with the officer even possible? Do they allow?

Usually they don't allow applicants to meet the case officer. If you insist, they will allow you to meet the duty officer, but I doubt it will make any difference to your application.

What's the point of giving someone like you SC? So many easier cases.

You have another major problem besides your residential address. You are a degree holder. You are 30. Therefore, you would have _at least_ five to six years of experience, and jobs with increasing levels of responsibility and pay. Yet, at age 30 you earn only $2.3K.

You know this is a subsistence wage. The gahmen would expect you to be earning at least $5K to $6K with your degree and number of years of experience.

I judge that even if you move back to Singapore permanently, you're not going to qualify for SC. The big, big question is: How come so little money for a degreed, experienced person?

Funny how I didnt think all these through before I submit the application.. residency + low wage .. compared to many others I am far behind I think.. I recently got my private degree plus company has never been generous with increment and promotions. Guess it's time to venture out for a better future and a higher chance of SC approval.. or maybe I should just remain as a PR.. :(
