More "sensible" urban planning

Post by bgd » Wed, 28 Mar 2018 10:06 am

I see stupidity here quite a lot and usually let it slide. This morning I have to comment.

At Changi Business Park pedestrian crossings are few so most people are forced to negotiate the traffic. My particular route takes me across 2 lanes to an island and then another 2 lanes.

This morning I find that some intellectual giant has planted a hedge forcing pedestrians to negotiate 4 lanes of traffic. :???:

Maybe there’s a long term plan, but it’s just plain dangerous now. No doubt the efforts of an urban designer whose only pedestrian experience is walking from car park to office, condo or mall.

There was a time when I worked in CBP in the signature building. I used to live in Tampines and then take the train to tanah merah and then wait for 10 mins there and then another train to expo and then walk another 10 mins. It used to take 45 mins in all.

Things have improved a lot since then after that No. 20 bus service and the DTL. Sadly these things came only after I move out of the east.

It's craxy here. LTA must have a 1920's mentality - they never place the safety or convenience of pedestrians above that of a car driver anyways.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

What else shall we add?
Narrow pavements?
Cycling (now) allowed (but previously tolerated) on already narrow pavements?
Inadequate motorcycle parking?
Pavement shelters that occupy part of the pavement?

Dont complain too much, CBP is much better than it was a few years ago, and there are now some decent places to eat and drink.

Look at the hedges and roped off areas by the signature to realise that the people putting those up have no clue

CBP is fine now. I do remember the desert that it once was.

That's exactly what I'm complaining about. The stupidity of it.
