Hi,
I have been away from Singapore for over 15 years. Recently I lost my job but found an opportunity after almost a year to return home. After accepting the job, I started to get cold feet and felt I should have come back first to better evaluate for myself.
I'm a citizen but my wife is not. We can live comfortably for a few years in a small city environment without work or picking up some odd jobs, so I am trading this carefree lifestyle for the "infamous" work-till-you-drop lifestyle in Singapore. My job also involves frequent travel which will put a strain on the family.
We are seriously considering giving up the offer; we are paying for a quick return trip to Singapore to decide, but I have to tell the future boss first.
Seeking for opinions of people who have taken the leap, or decided not to. Cost of living and density are definitely two top concerns aside from the frequent travels.
thanks
Matt

Returning to Work in Singapore
Re: Returning to Work in Singapore
Set it up in such a way that you can back to the small city environment in a year or two? (i.e. no irrevocable changes such as selling your house or cancelling your right to reside / work there).
Singapore IS claustrophobic.

I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

I thought about that but it is quite a challenge to keep the backup plan here.PNGMK wrote:Set it up in such a way that you can back to the small city environment in a year or two? (i.e. no irrevocable changes such as selling your house or cancelling your right to reside / work there).
We decided that if it didn't work out, then we are settling in Thailand for good. So no turning back.
