Falcon Heavy

Post by Strong Eagle » Wed, 07 Feb 2018 12:34 pm

Elon Musk successfully launched the "Falcon Heavy" today, becoming the world's most powerful rocket and capable of lifting nearly 70 tons into orbit. In addition to being an amazing engineering feat, the launch was notable for two other reasons.

a) Because it was the first launch of a test vehicle, it carried no "real" payload. Instead, it carried a ̶b̶l̶u̶e̶ (make that red) Tesla Roadster convertible, complete with a space suited mannequin, and playing music from The Space Odyssey. The rocket is powerful enough that the Tesla Roadster will be put into permanent orbit around the sun.

b) When asked about the future Elon Musk noted that even larger rockets were in the works for a trip to Mars, and the project is code named "BFR". When asked what the initials stood for, Musk replied, "Well, the 'B' is for big and the 'R' is for rocket."

Quite impressive ....

If they keep on the same progress timeline could bring down the costs of putting stuff into space considerably. TESLA or whatever his space outift is called already a fraction of the cost of NASA for almost the same payload
Life is short, paddle harder!!

An interesting article comparing the Falcon Heavy to the Saturn V.

The price may come down to $1000 range making it affordable for you and me to launch our own satelites.

For those geeky thinking-the-problem-to-death type, or those who likes philosophy or self-improvement, this may interest you :D .
