Hey there,
This is my first post.
I'm an 18 year old PR
I'll be finishing my IB exams this May.
I have the option to do NS but I've heard of people renouncing their PRs before NS. I just want to clarify the following:
1. Will you be granted a student pass or long term pass after renunciation of PR before doing NS?
2. Does renunciation of PR before delivery of the NS letter mean a person can return to SG on a student or long term pass?

Forget any type of long term pass, if you renounce your PR without doing NS. If you do that and go through any channel, the maximum that you will get is just a 30 days social visit pass. Not sure if they have stopped that also.

It is not going to impact you alone. You sponsor (I assume it's your parent) may be adversely impacted as well.
In ICA's own words:
NS-liable PRs are expected to serve NS. Renouncing or losing one’s PR status without serving or completing full-time NS would have an adverse impact on any immediate or future applications to work or study in Singapore, or for Singapore citizenship or PR status. Renouncing or losing one’s PR status without serving or completing full-time NS may also adversely affect any immediate or future applications for renewal of Re-entry Permits made by one’s family members or sponsors.
Good luck!
