Hello all,
We are in the process of relocating to Singapore and searching for primary school space for our kid who is 6 years old currently studying in an International School.
As we would be moving in the middle of session ( Jan 2018); unfortunately most of the top schools informed us there is no availability of seats in their Year 1/K2 class.
On the other hand high cost of school fees was another issue for some schools like SAS ( Singapore American School), UWC- which we understand are good schools with excellent track records.
Thankfully a few schools confirmed they have available seats which are GEMS, GESS ( German European), ISS ( International School of Singapore) , Nexus & OFS ( Overseas Family school)
Now we have to decide which one to select and would appreciate for any parents kind guidance to assist our selection process..
We are an Asian family and our intention is to enroll our kid into a IB stream but in a smaller, non for profit model type school which offers greater emphasis on learning and individual attention, rather than a fancy expensive school.
We heard very good reviews of Tanglin and Dover court; however understand there is always a long waiting list. Would appreciate if anyone could guide us better with pros and cons of available options which we have in our hands i.e. GEMS ( Location seems to be a disadvantage as we would most likely live in Western/Central side), GESS ( Strong European influence?), ISS ( Seems good), Nexus ( Relocating to a bigger location in 2020) and OFS ( Seems nice as well)
Please also let us know if you have any other suggestions too for our evaluation

Relocating to Singapore and searching for primary school
Re: Relocating to Singapore and searching for primary school
Neither OFS or ISS are not for profit. In fact they are for profit schools with all the problems of such.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

There is a Facebook group called "Real singapore expat wives". You will get good advice there. This forum is pretty much dead, for such purposes.

If that is your criteria, none of the International Schools would be a great fit. The school culture is toxic and the academic results are not stellar either. I’d definitely recommend you look into some of the local schools near where you live, most are really good quality.
