Australia will not waive good character test for NS defaulters

A national service defaulter seeking Australian citizenship was advised by a tribunal in that country to first return to Singapore and face pending offences. This means he cannot waive the good character test and obtain Australia citizenship (he could conceivably stay in Australia as a PR but has no passport now).

Check the ST.

As an Aussie with a son going into NS I say well done Australia.

Yes, I was relieved to see they didn't offer political asylum! I've half a mind to write the dean of his university a scathing note as well.

My son, a dual citizen of Singapore and Australia, is doing his service with pride. Your student should have done the same. You have besmirched the name of Gen. Monash
