PR - Spouse scheme

Post by Kevinsmith08 » Wed, 25 Oct 2017 2:26 pm

Hi guys,

I'm a foreign national but my wife is a Singaporean. I'm currently holding a LTVP pass and they renewing it every year.

I'm not working here, so I can apply for PR under Spouse scheme, but I need to know if I will be exempted from NS liabilities or not.. I called ICA, NS they are not giving any conclusive answers...

1)Can I apply PR under spouse scheme and exempted from NS liabilities?

2) In order to apply for a citizenship I need to be a PR for 2 years and not a LTVP holder correct? as per - https://www.ecitizen.gov.sg/Singapore-c ... apply.html it says "PR for more than 2 years".

3) Anyone know what is the cut off age for NS services? I mean after certain age NS will be exempted right?

Thanks guys
Kevin

Only male PR main applicants under the PTS scheme can be exempted from national service. Any other male PRs below 40 obtaining PR status through other channel are NS liable.

But are normally given a waiver. You just have to go through the motions with the CMPB/MINDEF. Unless you somehow managed to get PR and only 25 years old. Most who are 27~28 or older are given waivers.

Let me say this

Except in very circumstances, which don't apply to this dude, never know anybody above 25++ who got PR under Non PTS forced into NS.

You know something?

I quote according to published rules. What happens at the discretion of CMPB is beyond my knowledge...

We quote from anecdotal evidence about what typically happens. bcheng74, you should get out more. ;-)

A few weeks after being given PR status I received a letter from Mindef that asked me to register via their website. After submitting my info, an immediate message appear saying I was not required to do NS.

Haha... legally he is still NS liable but was exempted on discretion basis.
