Evaluate my fiance's PR Chances

Post by moonlitez123 » Sun, 15 Oct 2017 8:37 pm

Heyo all experts around here,

I have been lurking around this forum for the last 2-3 years now, ever since my boyfriend (now fiance) and I started having discussions about our future.

Me
Nationality: Chinese Singaporean Citizen (by Birth)
Age: 27
Salary: 6.5k/month
Profession: Engineer in a Startup, worked for 4 years
Education: NTU Bachelor's of Engineering

Partner
Nationality: Indian
Age: 31
Salary: 4.7k/month
Profession: Research Associate in NUS, 4+ years in SG on EP
Previously worked in Bangalore for a year
Education: NTU Master's in Computer Engg, NIT Bachelor's EEE (in India)
Lived in Singapore since: 2012

After doing some research, I have become pretty worried of the blockers we would face in trying to build a family here in SG (especially in terms of housing and visa issues). For some reason, we have not registered out marriage yet though we have been ready since 6 months ago. We intend to ROM in a few month's time. A few questions regarding PR application:

PTS or Family Ties?
If via Family Ties:
  • - Would it be difficult to apply LTVP for his parents in India to come here, since I am the sponsor?
    - If our financial standing becomes worse (say I made a career change to work in the social sector for a 3k/month job) during the time the application is processed, would it hurt his application?
    - How long after ROM is ideal for him to apply?
If via PTS:
  • - Would having an SC spouse benefit his application?
PTS vs Family Ties:
  • - Would processing times differ for each?
I have read many other posts regarding PR application for foreign spouse of SC and... sad to say it's been really discouraging, especially if the partner is a minority. Looking for a glimmer of hope here

Minority ..

Don't listen to those..

You hold a pink IC

That matters

I may suggest you apply for LTVP+

That seems to be ICAs recommended step

But before anything, get married, or all bets are off.

Get married, wait for 2 years and then apply as a spouse of singapore citizen. That would be the easiest and fastest route.

Oh, why are you thinking to bring his parents on LTVP? Too early for you to think about that. Is a 30 days social visit pass not enough?

Thanks for the quick replies! And, oh no need for LTVP for now, he is on Employment Pass.

Yeah, agreed that is too far off in the future, but a potential concern if his parents require our care or we need their help with raising young children. Hence, traveling once a month vs once every 6 months does make a difference.

In that case, would we be better off applying under the PTS after marriage since he has already been in SG for >4 years?

Get married first

Your stress factor will reduce a lot, like a whole lot.

Unless marriage is not on the cards as of now ..

Post marriage, LTVP+ is considered natural progression path to PR, or so I believe.

For his parents, he will have to qualify over a salary threshold to bring them in on LTVP...unless in the future, benefits from your SC will allow it

Thanks everyone for the advice! Booked our solemnization date to occur 1.5 months from now :D
Looking forward to it. Now I am really confused , he has an Employment pass here. Is there need for the pre marriage LTVP and wil attending the Marriage Prep Programme (MPP) be useful for future LTVP/PR/SC applications.

Gosh, these programmes and policies are weird.
