So find a job
Don't worry much about the pass process.
Hi ecureilx, not sure "my question were answered before"? I want to know a bit more about the requirement and the process, as I saw many people post on the forum that they have been delayed or not granted for their work permits. I am a bit worry the process is more difficult than it seems.
And haven't physically living in sg doesn't help with the job hunting process, so want to understand more about the current market and how people finding it so far.
Many thanks!
Your questions have been asked and answered many times.
- You have not specified your race and nationality
- You have not specified your line of work.
Both of these are necessary to make a better judgment call and both of these will be considered in determining whether you will be granted a work permit. In general, however:
- It will be very, very difficult for you to find a job without being physically present in Singapore.
- Finance and accounting generates many new Singaporean college graduates every year and the government wants to make sure there is a career path for them.
- It will be very difficult for you to find a job in Singapore if you are physically in the country, unless, you possess rare, hard to find talents. You will not, in all likelihood, want to work for the amount of money you will be offered. You won't be getting an expat package unless you are quite special.
- You don't apply for your work permit, your company does.
- It can take from just a few days for an MNC to hire a foreigner into their organization to months and months (and maybe never) for a body shop trying to import contractors to farm out to other firms.
- You will get an In Principle Approval letter if your work permit is approved which will allow you to migrate to Singapore.
- You will probably have better luck finding a company which does have a branch in Singapore, go to work for that company, then ask for a transfer.
Hi Strong Eagle, Thanks for the detailed replies! I didn't know I need to state my race and nationality. I am Chinese, educated and worked in UK for past few years. I work in Finance Middle to front office, in a senior analyst role. I can image it would be hard to find a job overseas while you are not living there, I saw people asking similar question but they were in IT or other industry, I am not sure that's a good reference to what I am looking for, so I started a new post.
I can understand your point as Sg is Financial hub in Asia, a lot of Sg grads would like to go into this fields, it's a competitive industry tends to attract the best talent, full of new challenges and thats why I like it. The specific field I worked in is very "niche" area in UK, but I am not sure how's it in Sg. I consider I have a good skillsets and experience, but I don't know how demanding is my skillset in Sg.
I did think about moving to a company with a branch in Singapore, but my current role offer me a good opportunity so I stayed longer than intended. But I want to move to Sg, so I would like to try to look for it from UK. Knowing it would be difficult but I don't know how is the current singapore market? and how likely is it for foreigners to find a job there? And the singapore visa system seems very objective based on likelihood, so it is hard for me to resemble it to anything I know.
And how do you find the Sg people, are they friendly towards foreigners in the work and social spaces?
Thanks a lot for your detailed reply, really appreciate it!
