Weighing up schools....

Post by Mrs_Rich » Wed, 11 Oct 2017 6:35 pm

Hi
My family and I (husband and five year old girl/boy twins) are moving to Singapore in the new year and I'm baffled by all the schools and what I'm looking for!
I've read many previous posts on this topic, but does anyone have any children this age in either Nexus, Chatsworth or Eton House? They will be six in June 2018....TIA :)

You can do a search in the Parenting, Family and Schools main board. Lots of info on the various schools here.

I'd suggest going for a charter (not for profit) school if you can afford it.

You're criteria should be;

1. Curriculum for home country
2. Charter vs money gouging plagiarizing thieving resourceless inexperienced junior teachers for profit school
3. Distance from home and transport
4. School waitlist (less of an issue since the GFC)

Above assumes you have the wherewithal or funding not to care about cost. If you can swing a place in a local primary even better (seriously well resourced schools leading the way in global primary education - actually giving Finland a run for it's money now).
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Thank you!
I've read many previous posts and it sounds like its really hard to get into the local schools? Plus as they're twins, I will need two spaces together which lowers my chances again. By no means is money no object!! These schools seem to be mid-range on the fees front...
Just wanted to know if anyone had kids at any of these schools and how they're getting on...

I am also interested in Hillside. It sounds from the website though that it is predominantly a Chinese school? i would want English to be the primary language, but am also very keen for them to learn Mandarin.

Thank you. I already have appointments booked with several schools we're interested in. Just looking for some personal opinions too :)
