If your reply is "most impt muz look gd after the surgery n nt uglier", you better think thrice before really go for any surgery. You are painting a perfect picture, not taking into considerations risks and complications. Who says that everyone looks better after surgeries? There are people who look worse than before, can you accept the fact?

Some surgeries are reversible, like nose implant or the "clipping" method for double eyelid. Understand more about the risk from your surgeon (not from us, please. We are not professionals in this field), then make a decision YOURSELF. Don't do it to please someone, or do it for someone's sake. And worse, don't give in to hard-selling from surgeons. If a surgeon tells you he *guarantees* that the result will be fantastic, you better have a second opinion.

p/s: I don't understand your question "u took how long to heal to normal skin?". Healing is internal, not on the surface....

Hi,

I can't really agree with you. If silicon stays separate from our flesh, what's holding it in place then? Even a scratch on your nose or a dig in the nostril will dis-lodge it :) Yes, your body will treat the implant as a foreign body will develop fibrous tissues to surround it, hence providing a cushion for the implant and holding it in place.

I'm not sure if silicon is a more common option for surgeons, but in Taiwan, most of the good surgeons use either gortex or cartilage. No doubt there's still surgeons who use silicon for whatsoever reason, but I'm quite sure the trend is moving (or already moved) towards gortex.

From what I know with silicon, its held in place by scar tissue forming AROUND it.
whereas with gortex, your tissue grows into it. Hence its said to be more difficult to remove goretex if u had it for many yrs.

In Singapore, surgeons still prefer silicon cos it can be removed easily. I personally prefer silicon, but Dr Jung uses goretex..

Regarding silicon complication. Its rare and only happen if the surgeon skill is no good or u just sway to kena infection.
Lotsa people had silicon for years with no prob ...

goretex

Post by katy » Tue, 27 Jun 2006 8:41 pm

Goretex :

Gore-Tex™, (yes, it is the same kind of material we find in our ski and camping outfits) the generic name is actually "expanded-polytetrafluoroethylene" (e-PTFE for short). Polytetrafluoroethylene is commonly known as Teflon®.

Because it is "expanded", it has a micro-porosity (little tiny pores throughout the material) that is large enough to allow for tissue ingrowth without forming typical scar tissue encapsulation. '

Hi Jovin,
Apologies, yah, meant to say that the scar tissues will hold the silicon in place. Anyway, pros and cons with both silicon & gortex.

I suppose silicon comes in different shapes n forms also - like mine is not white, but flesh colored (Dr Fok showed me a whole range of skin colored silicon implants of various tones) - if its white, there is a possibility that it will show thru ur skin under bright light/sun. Also, its not hard like plastic, but kinda rubbery - reminds me of the rubber door stoppers u can get at the pasar malams... - and yes, i thought it was gortex initially, but i checked and its silicon.

Iamdanny - to answer ur qtn, my procedure was just a simple L shaped implant with Dr Fok, from Vida Medical (at Paragon).

Chiquita: Now that I have a bridge between my eyes I don't really notice a diff in how my eyes look. At first I thought they looked closer together but perhaps that was due to the swelling I had? Maybe after the swelling has gone down so it looks more normal. And I totally agree with you. A good nose job should fit your face. Big face should have bigger nose and vice versa. Some ppl have the mentality that picking a new nose is like shopping out of a catalogue. I think its a good idea to show ur doc pics of ur ideal nose but keep in mind that he can't give u the same nose if ur nose structure isn't like that to begin with. They're surgeons not magicians.

Katy: I did send Dr Jung pics for my online consultation. And I didn't call him at all just corresponded thru email. After I was picked up at the airport I went straight to his clinic and had a consultation. He showed me before and afters that were similar to my nose and discussed my expectations etc. He took my before pics from all angles then put them on his computer and asked me to point out what I dun like etc. Then it was into surgery an hour later. He didn't take my after pics cuz I left Seoul too soon. Oh yeah and he is an ENT specialist so he only does rhinoplasty.

Ocean 11: Didn't mean to frighten u! There are lots of ppl with silicone who've had it for a long time and have no complications. And I read somewhere that asian skin is thicker so it tolerates implants better than ppl with thin skin. In the States the docs prefer to use autologous cartilage for augmentation. Alot of them won't use silicone or goretex for augmentation unless u have a severe congenital defect or were in a serious accident or something.

Speaking of docs in the States, I had a consultation with a top ENT surgeon in New York and he quoted me US$6K for alar reduction alone and US$10K for augmentation too. Whew! A bit too pricey for me..... another concern for me was that I wanted a doc who was specialized in Asian rhinoplasty.....and since most docs in NY do Caucasian noses I was a lil worried. So Dr. Jung seemed like the perfect solution....only US$4K and he's done thousands of Asian noses. The not so good thing is that Koreans have a kind of cavalier attitude towards plastic surgery. My boyfriend and I joke that Dr. Jung runs a nose factory and mine was made on an assembly line. Slap on some goretex, stick on ear cartilage on the tip and voila! New nose. But joking aside, I think he knows what he's doing and so far (cross my fingers) I like my new nose.

It's been exactly 2 weeks after I've had my nose done, I've got one of those L shape implants as well. I've noticed that the tip of my nose is slightly pinkish if I look at it very closely and also when I touch the tip, it feels very hard as well. I'm quite worried that mine is slightly protruding. Does anybody got the same problem? Please help! I'm panicking now!

Young princess: I saw Dr. Geoffrey Tobias in NY. He's also an ENT specialist who only does rhinoplasty. Dean Toriumi in Chicago is also supposed to be one of the best but he's even more expensive. He was at Dr. Jung's clinic a while ago giving a workshop. Dr. Tobias' website is www.rhinoplasty.com but I dunno how experienced he is with asian noses. He didn't have alot of before and after pics of asians to show me.

Shashi: My nose tip was extremely red when Dr. Jung took my cast off. I was really worried but now I'm also 2 weeks post op and its much better. There's still a bit of redness at the tip but its gone down alot. Dr. Jung said its normal and will go away.
