I went to Taiwan for the surgery done by Dr Jiang. He charges NT30,000 for nose and NT25,000 for eyes.
Young princess: I saw Dr. Geoffrey Tobias in NY. He's also an ENT specialist who only does rhinoplasty. Dean Toriumi in Chicago is also supposed to be one of the best but he's even more expensive. He was at Dr. Jung's clinic a while ago giving a workshop. Dr. Tobias' website is www.rhinoplasty.com but I dunno how experienced he is with asian noses. He didn't have alot of before and after pics of asians to show me.

Shashi: My nose tip was extremely red when Dr. Jung took my cast off. I was really worried but now I'm also 2 weeks post op and its much better. There's still a bit of redness at the tip but its gone down alot. Dr. Jung said its normal and will go away.
I did my homework too. Agree that Dr Toriumi will be my choice if I wana go US. But he is freaking expensive !!! USD20k I was told. he is jap and very very good. But USD20k is no joke.

I take Dr Jung anytime !!

jovinliu wrote:Alamak my dear PS buddy, our's is gortex not silicon lah. When i went for a consultation with Dr Chang, he showed me 1 bowl of silicon implants which he took out from patients who wanted to do revision on their rhinoplasty. They are hard, and when you drop them on the table, it actually sounds like you are scattering matches on the table. Usually they are white in colour too.

As for gortex, it's soft, rubbery, can turn and twist. I asked Dr Hsu to show me the kind of implant he used, and played for awhile with it. It's really like rubber, can tie a knot even! Ok lah abit too exaggerating... can tie knot but maybe the bridge will snap... WAAHAHAAAHAH!!!!

As extracted from 1 website:

Gortex®
Gortex® is a synthetic implant which has been used for years in cardiovascular surgery and renal transplant surgery. In recent years, it has had increased popularity as a soft tissue implant in the face because of its soft contour and minimal complications. With any type of implant there is always the potential for infection, rejection, irritation, and reaction.

Strips of Gortex® are inserted in the loose connective tissue under the lip or facial surfaces. The implant is introduced through the chin and cheek, and then threaded underneath the skin. The entrance and exit sites are closed with a small dissolvable suture. In deep folds, several augmentation procedures spaced at least three months apart may be necessary. The advantage of this technique is that the implant does not dissolve and there will be additional augmentation due to the body's fibrous tissue being stimulate to form around the Gortex® implant. Over the next 90 days, a fibrous tissue capsule forms which provides additional augmentation and contouring, serving to further insulate the implant.

Honestly if Dr Hsu still use silicon implant, i won't agree to do my rhinoplasty with him. I don't like the idea of having a hard material in my face, especially on a sensitive part like my nose.

So, my dear buddy, you may rest your mind a little bit at ease since our's is not the dreadful silicon, but it doesn't mean there's no risk at all. Every procedure every surgery comes with risk, there's none with 0 percent risk. Just take care and observe any changes.

Tonight you can sleep in peace liao :)

the website is http://korea.nose.co.kr/english/main/main.asp

it should have all the info u need like phone numbers costs etc.

Katy: If u wanna see pics of extrusion with silicone Dr. Jung has a whole section on it here http://korea.nose.co.kr/english/other/other01.asp

Dr. Jung never uses L shape silicone implants cuz of the risk of extrusion at the tip so he always puts your own ear cartilage there. And for me taking the ear cartilage was not a big deal. My ear stitches were removed 5 days post op and not alot of pain after that.
Alemak! this post by hannah nearly freak me out! having nitemare for the passed few days!! the side effects of the silicon really looked scary man!!
But come to think of it... there're tons of surgery using sillicon for the passed decade, don tell me all silicon are going to have problems??? i hope not.. if not, mabe i should tot of renew it after 10 yrs later..
My mother in law had rhinoplasty 30 yrs ago, her nose still well and intact lay.. somemore 30yrs ago technology is far worst den now.. so i personally think it depend on luck and the skill of the surgeon or the material they use not from those 3rd world countries made or made by recycle material.. so it should be ok la.. *consoled myself* :o
cos i can't bear to take out my implant now!! already fallen in love with my nose liao..
Xi meh!?!?! alemak!! me blur la!! sorry la PS buddy! u know la.. i implusive one.. went in to the operation theater, nvr ask anything, immediately lied down on the bed and ask the doc : Come doc!!! i am ready!! do anything u want!!! hahahaha....
:P

Ok ok.. like that i rest in peace liao.. *choi choi choi*.. i mean i got a peace of mind liao..

But the side effect silicon pic really damn freaking scary lor!! felt bad for those that having that prob.. that is why, don always look for cheap doc, but expensive one doesnt mean is good too.. most imptly, skillful and practice is the key word la!

today jus came back from another visit with a plastic surgeon in gleneagles... he say he use silicone implant n it looks like L shaped... then the doc say he wil cut from the part that link the upper gum to upper lip (erm hope u all know what i haf described) . his incision method is like very different from other doc who will cut on the inside of the nostrils leh... hmmm can those who had done rhinoplasty tell me if ur doc cut in the nostrils or in the ipper gum area?

and my doc say he will inject anesthetic in the nose n in the upper gum area n oso gv me sedative... the whole procedure wil take 30-45mins or less and it costs 1800 including all the medication and post op consultations... n the stiches used is soluble one... so the scars will be like in the mouth instead....

btw those who did rhinoplasty do ur docs show u the b4 n after surgery pics of his past patients? cos i request for the pics but his nurse say its confidential n she can't show me...

hope those who did rhinoplasty can ans my qns.... n btw i haf to stop taking vit E and epo 1 wk b4 the op right?

iamdanny, I'm from singapore but i prefer to do plastic surgery abroad lah, somehow no confidence in local doctor. it is just my own opinion, i just feel they are less experiance here as compared to their PS in Taiwan, Korea and even Thailand.

I don't know about incision in the mouth area, this is the first time i've heard of it to be honest, maybe Jovin or others will have a better idea as they have done quite a bit of extensive research on this topic. Beware the PS if they refuse to show you the pic of their ex patients as they most normally would do if you request them, some will even show it to you before you ask for them.

hmm so u mean the doc i visited is nt a gd n safe doc ar? i ask the doc to show me the pics n he say later his nurse wil show me but when i ask the nurses she say its confidential n they are nt allowed to show their ex patients pics

but then going abroad for nose surgery is oso nt safe in the sense if touchwood anything goes wrong later that doc nt there le n we can't find any1 to account for lor.... hmmm so i wil stil prefer local ba... oh btw i oso first time hear abt the incision from mouth area... but then it sounds like a gd idea cos the wound n scar is in the mouth n no one will see it...

My experiance with my PS is that during the consultation when we discuss on what we want to do for my nose, he will show me different pictures of different noses to hightlight that different nose shape requires different procedure and then similar ones to your nose and etc... so it should be in the consulation room that the PS will show you the pictures himself and not his nurse. I don't know if he's good and safe or not, don't want to accuse him but I wouldn't be comfortable with it.

Ihave heard of incisions from the mouth area. I guess it is the surgeon's preference or what he is experienced in doing. No point asking a surgeon who is accustomed to using one method to using another as he may not have the experience.

That said, I think you should be able to see before and after pics at the office. Sounds a little dodgy that the nurse said that. Which doctor is this?

its dr wong saw yeen at gleneagles... hmm the cost is rather affordable to me.. but the strange thing is i ask the dr if gt any pics n he say his nurse wil show me but when i ask the nurse she say can't show any pics cos its confidential... wierd rite? but i feel comfortable with the doc... but the cutting from mouth seem wierd to me.... hmmm leena wil u advise me to go for nose surgery with him or i shd consult more doc? cos he sound confident that i can look better with new nose but then he say can't achieve celerity kind of nose... i was tinking if i dun wan to let dr wong do i may find dr seah due to budget btw dr seah charge how much for simple L shaped implant?

Katy: Iagree about Dr. Toriumi. He's supposed to be the best but heard theres like a 6 mth waiting list to see him plus the US$20K fee.....and he's in Chicago so it wasn't feasible to see him.

Shashi: My implant is I shaped so it doesn't go all the way to my tip. My tip has ear cartilage on it and is lengthened and it feels NUMB and weird. When I touch my tip it feels like rubber. But from what I gather this is normal and it will take a while for the feeling to return. But I have super sensitive skin, it reacts to everything. So I'm not surprised that after pulling off the tape and cast it was bright red and rudolph looking. But it looks much better now. So not so worried anymore.....
