Fastest wayTigerlily_Orchid wrote:Hullo All,
My husband and I arrived in Singapore two days ago from the US, where we lived for close to 2 years. Before that we've lived in the wonderful city of Melbourne, Australia for about a decade. Between us, we've lived in 7 countries. We're both avid travelers.
I'm still trying to find my footing as I get to know this new country. I've only been here as a tourist before.
Would love to get to know people from all walks of life.
Cheers!
The stopoverers I guess.Wd40 wrote:The first time I read it as irritants What the hell is itinerants?

Thanks, PNGMK! That's a good way of looking at it considering everyone will eventually leave.PNGMK wrote:Hi. This is the country of itinerants. If you make one friend for life in the entire time you're here you are doing well.
Well...I have read a few locals express their irritation at expats so I guess the word is not far off.Wd40 wrote:The first time I read it as irritants What the hell is itinerants?

Don't get me wrong.Tigerlily_Orchid wrote: Is that the biggest group? We're not Americans so I'm not limiting myself to one race. I've submitted application to the Singapore Expat Wives group on Facebook then I'll check out the other groups.
I have like 5 after 18 years, crossing out relatives and such ..PNGMK wrote:Hi. This is the country of itinerants. If you make one friend for life in the entire time you're here you are doing well.

True, many others came and left, or got married and got banned from meeting me
I see. Great to know! I'm a member of Toastmasters in the US so I'll look into the local chapter here for some of my socials.ecureilx wrote:Tigerlily_Orchid wrote:

I suggested the American club as your first stop as it will be easiest of the lot to feel home. And unlike some groups where newer members join with some agenda, nobody's gonna question your intentions to join.
Moving ahead of course, time permitting, if you volunteer here and there, you will make more friends. You can look up here and there like Red Cross, HWA, MDAS, ARC, Club Rainbow..
And there's the local mummy groups, SHM groups etc etc.
Of course If you are the drinking till no tomorrow type, choices are too many.
I was thinking of Jaycees or Rotary/Rotaract and TM as well.Tigerlily_Orchid wrote: I see. Great to know! I'm a member of Toastmasters in the US so I'll look into the local chapter here for some of my socials.
No, unfortunately, I don't have a high tolerance for alcohol. I'll have to give those groups a pass. =)
Will do. Kinda busy looking for apartments right now. As soon as we get settled, I'll be on the social hunt.ecureilx wrote:

If you need a referral to a TM club here, let me know.
I have two of my ex-JCI members in TM, different TMs.
You can always visit as a guest I believe.
There are few TM clubs in Singapore, all under the same parent TM, including one called Toast Masters Club, in Singapore!Tigerlily_Orchid wrote: Will do. Kinda busy looking for apartments right now. As soon as we get settled, I'll be on the social hunt.
Is there more than one TM club here? I thought there was only one?
