I understand that the Singapore govt is trying to shape PRs on a pathway towards citizenship here and wonder if possessing dual citizenship already may cause a PR application to be looked upon less favourably?
I currently hold dual citizenship of Italy and Britain, and am married to a Singapore citizen for the past 5 years. 3 of these years have been spent here on an EP, and I'm now mulling over applying for PR.
We have no children at present. Appreciate your thoughts on how my application may be viewed.

Does having dual citizenship hinder PR?
Re: Does having dual citizenship hinder PR?
My Daughter has UK/ Japanese citizenship, and also PR here. Granted, she is only 4, and necessary to have PR to align with parents.
There's no negativity to apply for PR - only loss is of time and effort. You have quite a bit to gain if successful. It is not like they would revoke your EP of unsuccessful, right?
Imagine if this was a casino game, no losses, only wins. Why would you not even try?
Seems these days everyone is overthinking it and seeking guarantees of success, which is never going to happen.

Re: Does having dual citizenship hinder PR?
I hold 3 passports (aka citizenships). Did not affect PR application or my receipt of PR.
Re: Does having dual citizenship hinder PR?
Thank you for your input.
It's not that we are afraid to try, but more that I do not wish to mislead that I would eventually renounce my current citizenships which I see as a part of my identity.
Also I understand I will be applying for the PR under a family route, with my wife as the sponsor and not my job.
Another question, but this one more hypothetical.
If we are to have a child overseas with my wife being Singaporean, can we apply for PR for the child rather than citizenship? Just so they can retain a right to live and work in whichever country they choose to in future, without having to renounce at age 21.
And yes, we understand if the child is a male, he will need to commit to military service as a Singapore PR which we both feel is right. We just want him (or her) to be able to retain the right to live and work in the UK or Italy as well, past the age of 21.

Re: Does having dual citizenship hinder PR?
To answer your question in a round about way.... having certain citizenship hinders PR.
The reality is that Westerners are far, far more likely to return to their home country and cancel their PR (and their sons PR - no NS fodder there) than other nationalities. I know Aussies, Americans, Kiwis, and Brits who have all taken up PR with full intent of becoming SC and then bailing at some point. I think this is why the PR approvals for Westerners have absolutely plummeted in the last decade - someone in ICA did a nationality vs SC yield analysis. The nationality matters, not how many you have.

I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Re: Does having dual citizenship hinder PR?
Thanks, we will see how my PR application goes.
Again, my hypothetical question - can my child born overseas to Singaporean mother, apply for PR instead of SC? Or is it strictly SC or nothing else?
