Q JUMPERS

They are getting bolder and the problem is getting worse I think. I called one out today in Fair price and he surprisingly was not a foreigner. He claimed some BS reason but as the shouting progressed of course tried the FT card. I was however heartened by the support of the older Singaporean men in the line who also started to abuse him. He thouht he could jump in front of two old women and get away with it and that's what he hated me reminding the crowd about. He keep saying your stuck in Singapore and have no choice which is a weird line to use on a foreigner. Anyways I encourage all of you to push back and call these scum out.

Actually it is surprising it is not a widely accepted norm in Fairprice and such.

It's a part of the culture. There are some areas where people are not even aware this happens and not because it is somehow hidden from the view or less frequent, they are just so used to it, they don't see it as q-jumping and they do the same. A flagship example - the daily traffic in any place with more than one lane, where at a junction one lane goes left. In every single minute in any rush hour time there will be at least a few cars traveling the other lane trying to squeeze in to the left lane.
My wife was closed to be physically assaulted by one of the local true-blue morons after she didn't let him in. He left his car and started approaching her car and only stopped after she pointed her finger to the dashboard camera. Then the usual FT diarrhea followed.

x92, that happens to me EVERY MORNING I go to work in two locations. The intersection of AMK Ave 10 trying to make a right turn onto AMK Ave 1. It's two lanes left and one lane right (with a different signal for the right turn). the other one is at the bottom Bishan Road exiting right onto Braddell Road to get on the ramp to the macritchie flyover. (three lanes but only one lane for the ramp (the far right lane). Every freakin' morning.

I have 4 such spots on my way to work: (1) Bkt Batok East Ave 2 left to Ave 6; (2) Toh Tuk Ave exit to PIE towards the city; (3) Clementi Ave 6 left to Commonwelth Ave W; (4) Commonwelth Ave W right to Commonwelth Rd.
Also, every freaking day.
And you know, in many situations something like this can be done with the zipper merging, and that would be fine - most of the local drivers have serious troubles to start moving on time glued to their mobile phones, but nobody here seem to know how to do the zipper so they just try to push their way through and apparently hardly anybody complains except a few angry Angmohs.

I am always puzzled when folk say the "Singaporeans" like to queue(I put in quotes as I am sure someone will tell me that its the Chinese and the Malaysians doing it)

They miss the key words, they like queues in order to jump the queue and get some weird self gratification in having jumped said queue

Its a strange phenomena , but as X9200 said its an accepted practice here and folk dont see it as anything wrong as everyone does it.

For us non car drivers "bus queues" are the worst and nobody really queues , the objective is to get on the bus first irrespective of when you arrived at the stop.

Such is life here.

Its my one failure on integrating, I really cannot bring myself to push in , even when a gap opens up and opportunity knocks I always let the folk who have been waiting longer go first.

Two weeks ago, there was a big traffic jam, from Novena all the way past the Newton Circus..

caused by the 'me first' guys ... at Novena .. A bit of give and take would have saved a lot of heartache

I can never get used to folks tempting their fate, including

- those who over take busses on the right, and cut in front to take a left, knowing the 20 tonne monster will stop - and it does stop right ?
- or not giving way to a lumbering 20 tonne bus, knowing the bus must give way to speeding cars
- and when you want to filter, DON'T Filter behind the car in front - overtake and filter in front, forcing the guy to slow down.

Since I started driving a bit of late at work, I started praying hard, that I don't start behaving like the local drivers.

I been already horned at and glared at, enough times, for giving way to busses exiting bays, or giving way to other cars, or slowing down for avoiding possible accidents. I guess I was expected to do the total opposites ...

I go to the front of the queue every time. But I'm on a bike and don't hold anyone up.

More people should ride bikes :D

After some reflection my main goal is avoid stroking out or getting arrested for beating a q jumper up.
