One of the great things about Singapore is that it's located within a central position on Asia's 'surf map'. With daily connections to many amazing surf destinations, Singapore should definitely be considered a hub for surfers travelling to or within Asia. Here are the best places to surf near Singapore:

1. Desaru Beach, Malaysia

The optimal time for good waves here is from November to March, and with it being only an hour and 15 minutes away from Singapore, it's a great place to start. This is one of the coolest places to surf in Malaysia, and with perfect beach breaks. The main surf area is around Tanjung Balau, at Wild Boar Bay. On weekends it can get pretty busy with locals, but if you go there on weekdays, you can enjoy the whole place by yourself!

2. Phuket, Thailand

The perfect surfing period in Phuket is between May and October and, with a multitude of great beaches to surf, you're spoilt for choice. Depending on the type of break you're looking for you can decide between Bang Tao Beach, Kalim Beach, Kamala Beach, Karon Beach, Kata Beach and much more! There's something for both beginners and professionals. Many beaches offer clear water and beautiful sands, so it's a picture-perfect surfing destination.

3. Da Nang, Vietnam

The best thing about this beach is that waves are available and great to surf, all-year-round, so you have no time restrictions. This is great for soft, empty beach breaks, so perfect if you are just starting out on your surfing journey. People say this is an under-explored surfing spot, so it's the perfect place to call your own.

4. Bali, Indonesia

Bali is world renowned for its surfing and with beaches to suit absolutely everyone, it's a go-to destination for all levels of surfers. Try Kuta beach if it's your first time and get a cheap surf lesson to get your confidence built up, then move on to Balangan Beach for crystal waters and a reef break. Once you're really good, you can head south and surf the beautiful Uluwatu beach or Padang Padang beach. Bali is a great destination to work on your surfing skills and work your way up to harder waves at different beaches. Surf is available all-year-round, depending on the location, so you can catch waves whenever you like! Remember the water in Bali can be quite cold at certain times of the year, so make sure you decide on a new wetsuit to buy before you go.

5. Lombok, Indonesia

Surf is available all year round here and one particularly good spot is The Gerupuk Beach, or if you prefer something a little more isolated, then Lombok is known for its best secret surf point, The Desert Point, which is located on the south-west coast of Lombok. It's perfect if you want to get a little more space to yourself.

Are you ready to get your surf on? Then pick your destination and go!

Thanks for that Pal.

Just to add, Cerating and Tioman have way decent surf during the monsoon. Tioman even has an annual surf contest nowadays. Cerating may be "teh tarek" water, but the surf is probably best in Malaysia, certainly better than Desaru, which is mostly beach break.
