P.O.S. Photobucket

Post by sundaymorningstaple » Sun, 09 Jul 2017 12:06 am

After being with Photobucket and putting up with their endless popups and slow or non-loading website, they have the gall to try to hold us at ransom for 3rd party hosting. Needless to say, there will be some broken links here I'm afraid or there might be the ransomware image they've been posting in place of your broken links. Trying to get users to purchase a "competitive package" that costs $399/year. Screw them. I'll have some broken links but I but you they are going to have a broken P & L after several million did like I did all afternoon by downloading and backing up those photos and then deleting the files on photobucket. Then tonight I deleted my account (however, I do notice that they will not actually delete for 3 months if you want to reinstate it. I guess that so they can pull your photos for their own usage. They aren't any better than the lastest ransomware virus that was going around. I been with them for 10 years. Bye Bye Photobucket. You just sh*t in your own bucket.

Any other photo hosting sites to suggest? Although in our forum, we can always upload as attachment.

Sadly, at the moment I don't, Pal. I don't want to use Imgure or however you spell it as all and sundry can view. I didn't have all that much on there in the first place but it's the principle of the thing that irks me. Of course there is always Picassa and Google Drive and Dropbox. Which if you have a fair number of photos, you are going to have to pay for as well.

I just saw the email.

So I can't embed photos.

So what can I do with PB now?

What is their business model?

Beats me

You can pay them large sums of money and still embed photos. Larger sums than any of their competitors charge. :???: And no notice either. Definitely a quick way of reducing their client base.

Maybe they assume there will be sufficient people that will pay. To me it looks like desperation. Best move photos, they may not be around in a year (or less).

If it was say 20 $ or 30 $, I won't mind, as almost all photos I host are in a tech forum with ZERO monetory benefit for me.

Not 399 $ And NOT 399 US$
