Best Uni for Marketing?

Post by Hexor » Fri, 07 Jul 2017 8:09 am

I'm currently working full time as Sales for a Freight Forwarding company. I have worked for around 2 years, which mainly within the range of Procurement & Supply Chain functions. (I graduated with Logistics & Supply Chain).

2 years down the road and I think dealing with goods, stocks, shipping are not for me.

As an expat, it's really really hard to get a job without much experience, even you have a degree in that field. I'm interested in taking marketing and hopefully I can get a job in Marketing for my next career move. I've tried applying to Marketing Intern and got rejected.

Any recommendations for courses / Diplomas / Degrees (Full Time/ Part Time) that is well recognized in Singapore? Or is there any other way round to get my foot into Marketing?

Cheers

Probably the best way is not what you want to hear. For an expat to swap horses while in the field it's almost impossible here in Singapore as you will have to get past the MOM. They are always going to say the company can hire a new graduate locally and rightly so. Therefore, to have a smidgen of a chance you will probably have to return to your own country, find a job in the industry of your choice, work there for 2 or 3 years and then try again overseas with something to offer an employer other than "I want".

Try to switch positions within your own company first. While there are plenty of companies that will show you the door, there are also plenty others that would rather keep their talent, even in a different discipline.

Thanks both. I think you both definitely made some point.
